It is present in human nature to detest the oppressor and sympathize with oppressed irrespective of personal interest. But Hussain Ibn Ali's stand against the tyrant ruler of his time, is unrivalled in chronicles of history.
Just when Muslim empire reached almost peak of its glory and Yazid's policies started to destruct social values, truth and justice were shaken to their foundations, brute forces and tyranny were riding roughshod over men's right to liberty of conscience. At that critical juncture Hussain the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, challenged not only the legitimacy of ruler but also that imperialist tyranny which was masquerading as Islamic State.
The battle of Karbala was not a clash between two personalities but between two principles; love for truth against lust for power; passion for justice against perversity of tyranny. It was Firmness and purity of Husain's character that he never paid allegiance on to the hands of illegitimate tyrant ruler even if it caused him to sacrifice everything.
Hussain made a stand for every poor whose rights were being confiscated, his voice was to condemn any injustice towards people in the name of religion. He was the standard bearer of peace and pacifism to "live and let others live peacefully". But when the brutal forces incited a war at Karbala, He sealed his protest with his own life and life of his dear family members and companions.
As Hussain Ibn Ali said;
"I would remain steadfast in my resolve. Death holds no disgrace for him whose intentions are pure and who fights to defend what is right"
His sacrifice re-established human conduct which was at it last gasp and gave to mankind a message which would remain deathless. He acquainted world with the real value and merit of truth, and presented for its edification that mode of life in which immortality itself is latent.
Battle of Karbala is an ocean of teachings; of rightfulness, discipline, leadership, justice and best of moral sensibilities. Hussain's sacrifice is a beacon of light for every generation to withstand the truth with valor and bravery. Never to compromise on any vice committed and to speak for the oppressed against the oppressor. His message later evoked many revolutions and until now is a symbol of freedom.
In no language however, victory is defined as 'killing', nor defeat as 'being killed'. On the contrary, victory connotes success and defeat signifies failure in achievement of one's objective. Hussain is truth and truth is victory.
Here is a little insight to the events that established victory of Hussain and ultimate defeat of Yazid:
